Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?  Advertising is a waste of a company’s money, because consumers know what they want to buy.

To maximize profits, companies and sellers have been catering more and more to the public’s taste.  Launching advertising campaigns for new products has turned out to be indispensable. However, some critics claim that advertising is a futile effort and a meaningless squander of money for enterprises. In my perspective, I disapprove of this argument.
First of all, advertising arouses sensation and thus encourages consumption. Before opening their wallet, consumers may hesitate for various reasons, such as no urgent needs or high prices of goods. At this moment, a captivating advertisement can draw their attention and penetrate into their mind. It ignites their sensation and thus their desire to make purchases. For example, in order to boost sales volumes, a smartphone enterprise can release an advertisement to showcase the unique design, neat interface and high-quality components of their products. In this way, viewers will be enchanted and then tempted to place orders. Accordingly, advertising is a cost-effective investment for greater profits.
Secondly, advertising can enhance the visibility of new products. It is the unfamiliarity with products that chokes the growth of sales volumes. That requires the company to publicize its unique products to the world. For example, Coca-Cola has blazed a new path in the soft drink market. However, when Coca-Cola was first released, it didn't receive much popularity. Not until heavy investment was made in advertising did it start to become all the rage worldwide. Indeed, advertising can exert a tremendous impact on a lucrative market, which may render a corporation rolling in wealth overnight.
Lastly, a pivotal function of advertising is to highlight product strengths. The success of a product hinges on its competitive edge against other similar merchandise. This will in turn create an impressive brand image enshrined in purchasers' mind and effectively motivate them to make purchases. To cite an instance, Apple is a competitive company which can still triumph over their competitors during an economic low ebb. The ultimate reason that renders Apple prominent is its unparalleled product strengths, which have acquired recognition from consumers and investors. Apparently, publicizing product strengths via advertising can be highly beneficial to a company's long-term success.
To sum up, by stimulating consumption, elevating visibility and showcasing product strengths, advertising enables a product to secure a firm market share and even stir up a craze across the globe. To fortify the popularity of products, advertising is undoubtedly a determining factor.
