I’d like to talk about a cultural landmark that I’ve always been desperate to learn more about, which is the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
It’s located right in the heart of the city, on a small island called Île de la Cité, surrounded by the Seine River.
I first really got to know about this place through Victor Hugo's famous novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
It painted such a vivid picture of the cathedral in my mind.
Then, like most of the world, I was glued to the news in 2019 when that tragic fire broke out.
Seeing the spire collapse was a real shock, but it also sparked a global conversation about its history, which made me even more curious to visit it once the restoration is complete.
In terms of what it’s like, it’s a masterpiece of Gothic architecture.
Even from photos, you can see these massive flying buttresses and incredibly detailed stone carvings.
What’s really cool is the Rose Window—the stained glass is supposed to be a total feast for the eyes when the sunlight hits it.
It has this dark, medieval vibe but at the same time, it feels incredibly elegant and grand.
The reason why this place is so deeply steeped in culture is that it’s not just a church; it’s a living timeline of French history.
It has survived wars, revolutions, and now a massive fire.
To the French people, it represents their national identity and artistic excellence.
To me, learning about its culture means understanding how humans have used art and faith to express themselves for over 800 years.
It’s a true testament to human resilience, and I can’t wait to see it rise from the ashes in person.
